Week 4
Colour Testing
My plan at the beginning of the week was to have a full colour test so that I could get better at the final illustration stage. Based on the colour story I started colouring and testing one by one and ended up with 15 looks and this time I am also experimenting with watercolours as this will bring out the textures of the garments better in the initial stages and increase efficiency.
I have discovered my problems with water colour over the past three terms. Unlike markers, water colours are brighter and lighter, which makes it difficult to bring out the colours in a short painting. This is why I did not choose water colour as the final illustration material. Secondly, my inability to master the brush strokes very well has prevented me from painting the prints I want, which is one of my biggest drawbacks at this stage. The problems summed up will be something I will continue to refine over the summer so that I can achieve the best results back by September.
These pictures are examples that I think go to express what my problem is.

Illustration Begin
At the beginning of my final illustration, I was thinking about how to express the effect of the garment presentation, whether it would be more vibrant or more dark. And instead of using pencil marks to outline, I’m going to try to colour directly. It’s a very risky thing for me to do. For the fabric, I’m still using markers and gradations of coloured pencils, which I think will give the best expression of what I want. At the same time, I found that I began to develop my own unique style of drawing and design.
In the beginning, I found that I was too restrictive in my technique of painting fabrics. It took some time to practice afterwards.
