Week 3
Muse
According to the course plan this week focuses on designing outcomes for clothing and continues to develop. My plan was a little different, as I started this Monday with a rough idea of my muse and a quick presentation of it. Firstly, I designed a muse with a mask around the building, and this mask can be worn above the forehead like a headgear. Secondly, I used the present and the past as inspiration and turned the mask into an eye patch, creating a symmetry between the two eras. Finally, I did some research based on some paintings of ancient Babylon, looking at the features and appearance of the characters, which led to my final Muse – the bearded old man. After some discussions with my tutor, I decided that the bearded old man was the most suitable muse for my theme and had a unique style.

Outcome Development
This week was also a bit of a rush as I had to quickly combine research and dimensional work into a sketch for the garment. Initially, my sketches kept building on my diorama work, which made it difficult to develop them. Then with tutor’s guidance I started to combine and develop them from research. This is one of the weaknesses that I need to improve. And I need to distinguish between illustration and sketching, which at first I didn’t realise I had a problem with. I just kept on sketching in detail, but that didn’t help much with the sketches. It was also with Tutor’s guidance that I realised that sketching was a way of putting my ideas into a simple form. Based on this approach I developed it better in the following process.






Extra Shoes Development
In the process, I had the whim to design a few shoes that would go with my project for this time. Firstly, I took the forefoot of the sacred animal Mushhushshu as inspiration for a split-toe shoe. And, using the hind foot as inspiration, I designed an eagle claw shoe. Finally, I designed a sneaker inspired by the layers of the Tower of Babel. I think the development of this accessory also helped me in my clothing. And to better mix and match different combinations in the final illustration.
